About SEVEN New York
SEVEN New York was founded on April 1st, 2000 at its former 180 Orchard Street location in the Lower East Side of Manhattan by Joseph Quartana, Steve Sang and John Demas. On December 20th, 2005, a new flagship store at 110 Mercer Street in SoHo was opened after the demolition of the previous one. Representing the true spirit of SEVEN New York, this new shop was envisioned to be a modernist 'machine' designed to showcase only the most unique and progressive men's and women's apparel and accessories in the world, while providing as much detailed information about these collections on display to the clients in the space.
Keeping in mind SoHo's roots in art, the space is essentially a white-walled 'gallery' containing an installation of three black mirrored, rectilinear interventions, the hallmark being the giant floor-to-ceiling monolith – an edifice within the space which servers to house the fitting rooms, office and utilities. Depending on gender, the visitors' experience is guided in either a clockwise or counterclockwise path through the circular layout of the space and past each of the collections. The central mannequin stage exhibits several of the favorite looks of the season and simultaneously serves as the visual directory for the collection on the facing walls. Related runway shows and other visual material can be viewed at the nearby LCD monitor while the audiopile-grade sound system and varied selection of obscure music form another integral part of a visitor's experience through the interior of the boutique.
Far from just a brick-and-mortar or online fashion boutique, Seven New York has been a leading force in the promotion of directional apparel design for over a decade, forecasting and influencing progressive retail and apparel design trends on a global scale. Whether established or yet undiscovered, Seven brings the most creative and forward-thinking independent designers from around the world under a single roof. In addition, Seven provides its designers with supplemental media exposure and production for special events and collaborative graphic/installation art projects. With Future-Modernist sensibilities, cultural vigilance and a prescient eye, Seven New York and their stable of visionary designers strive to deliver vehicles of inspiration to the discerning, creative-minded individual, in defiance of the aesthetic norm.
